They raised the sum while building a suite of medical research laboratories at St Thomas’ Hospital on the south bank of the Thames. This week the project team handed over a big cheque to the Evelina Children’s Hospital, located next door as part of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Project manager Chris Odei and site surveyor Lauren Fermor were behind the idea, raising donations from a wide number of Kier colleagues and site suppliers.
Chris said: “Now that we have completed our work, this seems a highly appropriate way to mark the occasion on behalf of everyone involved in the project.”
Lauren added: “As well as contributions from our subcontractors, money was also donated directly by Kier and also raised by Kier employees as part of a dress down day across our main London offices.”
Subcontractors who donated were Goss Environmental Coatings, Globe Scaffolding, Mechanical Services, Merit Cleaning Services, Napier Construction, QOD Construction, Stafford Bridge Doors and Techniplast UK.
Kier’s official mascot Kieran also came along for the presentation and proved a big hit with young patients he met in the hospital, which carries out highly specialised procedures such as organ transplants and cardiac operations.
Receiving the donation from Kier, Shadia Hameed, community fundraiser with the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, said: “We are really grateful to the Kier team for their support, as we depend on donations like this to run the hospital. It is also an excellent example of the strong relationships we are building with a wide range of groups and individuals in the community.”
